Food Stamp Adventure -- Part 1: Organic Brands

Being approved for food stamps means that I can finally afford to buy organic food. YAY!

I'm in the midst of planning my first organic supermarket sweep, so I'm researching which organic brands are the best. Like everyone else, I like to think that all organic food is hand-crafted by Amish people and delivered to the grocery store by bicycle messengers.

Apparently not though. I'm finding that most popular organic brands are owned by big corporations:

- Kashi and Morningstar Farms are owned by Kellogg's

- Odwalla is owned by Coca-Cola

- Naked Juice is owned by Pepsi

Visit this site for an interesting breakdown of who owns what.

ALSO... I found out that the owner of Bolthouse Farms donated $100,000 to help ban gay marriage in California (Prop 8) because he believes in using his company as a "tool of ministry." Why does hate have to be so yummy?

Bums me out because 'Strawberry Banana Explosion" was always my favorite...
